UPDATE | Man granted bail over alleged brawl at Australia Fair

Update @August 25 | A man’s been granted bail after an alleged brawl broke out at Australia Fair shopping centre on Friday.

64-year-old Charle Hili faced Southport Court yesterday charged with three counts of assault, one count of assault occasioning bodily harm, one count of serious assault of a person over 60 and one count of going armed to cause fear.

He was granted bail to reappear on September 10.


It’s understood as part of his bail conditions he is prohibited from approaching the rival store.

Earlier @9.30am, August 24 | A man is due in court today after allegedly assaulting another man and his wife at Australia Fair shopping centre yesterday.

The violent confrontation happened at a store just after 5.00pm on Friday.

The 64-year-old man is accused of hitting a 51-year-old man over the head with a billy club multiple times before allegedly punching the man’s 39-year-old wife after she ran to her husband’s aid.

Police say the trio are known to each other.

An innocent shopper was also allegedly pushed to the ground by the man after she was caught in the confrontation.

Security managed to detain the man before police arrived and took him into custody.

He’s been charged with a string of offences including three counts of assault, and one count each of assault occasioning bodily harm, serious assault of a person over 60 and going armed so as to cause fear and will appear in Southport Court today.

The 51-year-old man was taken to hospital with head injuries, while his wife managed to escape uninjured.
