Man charged with pointing laser at Police chopper

A man has landed himself in hot water after deliberately attracting the attention of NSW Police.

It’s alleged the 31-year-old pointed a laser at a Police helicopter at Werrington, in Sydney’s west around 8.30pm on Saturday.

The PolAir helicopter was in the area assisting St Marys police with an unrelated incident.


The crew on board was hit with the laser beam from the vicinity of Victoria Street.

St Marys police tracked down the alleged offender, who was on the balcony of a unit block at the time of the incident.

He was arrested and charged with possessing a prohibited weapon without a permit and doing an act to threaten the safety of an aircraft/persons on board.

He was granted bail to appear in Penrith Local Court on August 21.
