Man charged with punching woman to the ground in street disturbance

A man has allegedly punched a woman in the face after she stepped in to try and break up an argument in Sydney this morning.

Police said several people became embroiled in an argument outside a hotel in Martin Place shortly after 3am.

The 24-year-old woman went to intervene when she was knocked to the ground after being punched in the face, allegedly by a 20-year-old man.

She was treated by paramedics at the scene before being taken to St Vincent’s Hospital for further treatment.

The man was arrested and taken to Surry Hills Street Police Station where he was this morning formally charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

He was granted conditional bail to appear in Downing Centre Local Court on Thursday 4 August.
