Man allegedly sexually assaulted girl on road trip through rural NSW

A man will face court today, charged over the alleged indecent and sexual assault of a teenage girl in country NSW.

Detectives from the State Crime Command’s Child Abuse Squad commenced an investigation in January following reports that a 16-year-old girl had been assaulted.

Following extensive inquiries, a 25-year-old man was arrested at Tamworth Police Station yesterday morning.

It’s alleged the man indecently and sexually assaulted the girl while they were travelling in car between Tamworth and Wagga Wagga in October 2015.

Police said the pair did not know each other and that a relative of the teenage girl had arranged the trip.

The West Tamworth man has been refused bail to appear at Tamworth Local Court today.

The Child Abuse Squad is comprised of detectives who are specially trained to investigate crimes against children, including sexual assault, physical abuse and serious cases of neglect.
