Man charged after stealing $90K rental car from Sydney Airport

A man has been tracked down and charged after stealing a $90,000 rental car from Sydney Airport last month.

Police say the man hired the Audi SQ5 SUV for 7 days at Sydney Airport using fraudulent identification.

When the vehicle was not returned the company reported the car as stolen.


Following ongoing investigations, police yesterday stopped the Audi on Newbridge Road at Milperra and arrested the driver.

A search of the vehicle, which had altered number plates, allegedly located fraudulent personal identification documents and a quantity of cocaine.

A 35-year-old man was taken to Bankstown Police Station and charged with seven offences including:

Steal motor vehicle; Dishonestly obtain property by deception; Deal with identity information; Possess identity information; Vehicle displaying altered number plates; Dishonestly possess interfered with unique identifier; and Supply prohibited drug.

The man was refused bail to appear before Bankstown Local Court today.
