Man charged with stealing elderly woman’s handbag in Nowra

A man will appear in court today after allegedly stealing an elderly woman’s handbag from her trolley in Nowra last week.

Just after 1pm on Friday, a 77-year-old woman was in a supermarket car park in East Street when she fell over while trying to stop her trolley from rolling away.

A number of people rushed over to help the woman and while doing so the woman noticed her handbag, which was strung over the back of the trolley, had disappeared.


Officers from Shoalhaven Local Area Command attended and commenced investigations.

About 3pm on Saturday, police arrested a 36-year-old man at his home.

He was taken to Nowra Police Station where he was charged with steal from person.

He was granted conditional bail to appear at Nowra Local Court today.
