Man charged after three cops brutally assaulted at Southport Watchhouse

A man has been charged over the brutal assault of three police officers at the Southport Watchhouse in the early hours of this morning.

It’s alleged the man violently lashed out at the officers whilst being placed into a cell around 4.20am.

Three police officers were injured with a female constable receiving a strain and bruising to her wrist, chest and elbow, a male senior constable receiving a strain and bruising to his wrist and a male sergeant sustaining a possible rib cartilage tear.


A 23-year-old man has been charged with three counts of assault or obstruct police officer and is also facing an earlier public nuisance offence.

He is due to face Southport Court Magistrates Court today.
