Man charged with drink driving after dramatic Coast crash

A man has been charged with drink-driving after crashing into a light pole on the Gold Coast.

The dramatic smash happened along Gooding Drive in Merrimac just after 10.00pm last night.

It’s understood the driver lost control before ploughing into a light pole along the busy road.

The man allegedly tried to run from the scene but was quickly tracked down by police on the Pacific Motorway and arrested.

The 34-year-old from Bundall has since been charged with drive whilst over the middle alcohol limit.

He’s expected to face Southport Magistrates Court on July 28.
