Man charged with kidnapping, bashing, sexually assaulting woman in NSW paddock

AN 18-YEAR-OLD man has been charged with brutally bashing and sexually assaulting a young woman during a terrifying 90 minute long attack in a paddock in Central West NSW.

The 22-year-old woman was walking along Russell Street in Bathurst on Saturday when she was grabbed from behind by an unknown man just before 6pm.

Police say the man dragged the woman into a vacant paddock where it’s alleged he repeatedly punched her in the face before sexually assaulting her for an hour-and-a-half.

When the man left the scene, the woman ran to a nearby home and phoned for help.

She was taken by ambulance to Bathurst Hospital where she was treated for multiple injuries as well as facial cuts, bruising and swelling.

Sex Crimes detectives launched Strike Force Laven to investigate the attack and, as a result of their inquiries, yesterday raided a home in Bathurst where they arrested an 18-year-old man and seized numerous items.

He was taken to Bathurst Police Station and charged with 10 offences, including kidnapping, six counts of aggravated sexual assault inflicting actual bodily harm, and three counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

He was refused bail to appear at Bathurst Local Court today.

Meanwhile, police are continuing to conduct inquiries into the incident and are asking anyone who may have information and has not yet spoken to police to come forward and contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
