A search followed for four other occupants of the house, a 38-year-old man and three children, who were unaccounted for.
Thankfully, they were all found safe and well five hours later, at a house in Berwick.
The man, who police say is from Berwick, was arrested and spent the night being questioned by homicide detectives.
It’s understood the 38-year-old had been living in the Cranbourne North home with the woman and three children.
He has since been charged with one count of murder and has been remanded in custody to appear in court at a later date.
Within 90 minutes of receiving the initial call, police were alerted to a second woman’s body found at a house in Hampton Park, less than 4km away.
A man in his 40s was arrested at the scene and he too has now been charged with murder.
