Man charged with Mermaid Beach murder

UPDATE: A MERMAID Beach man has faced court for allegedly killing his housemate.

Paul Gathercole, 40, is accused of fatally stabbing Robbie Joseph Charles,32, at their Heron Ave home on Saturday evening.

Officers found Charles’ blood body on the front lawn of the home when they arrived shortly after 10.30pm.


The Bulletin reports, Police will allege they received a 000 call from a man who claimed to have stabbed “his best mate”.

It’s believed the men got into an argument after returning home from a night out.

Acting Chief Superintendent Des Lacy said the men had been out drinking before they came home.

“They were the only two there and a blue has ensued, with (the victim) ending up out in the front yard.”

Gathercole faced Southport Magistrates Court today and his case was immediately adjourned until March 19.

A MAN has been charged with murder after allegedly stabbing another man to death at a house party on the Gold Coast.

Police were called to a unit on Heron Avenue, Mermaid Beach just before 10.30pm on Saturday night following reports of a disturbance.

Upon arrival, officers located a 32-year-old man with a stab wound to his torso.

He was treated by paramedics at the scene, however was pronounced dead at the property a short while later.

Police arrested and questioned a 40-year-old Mermaid Beach man soon after the incident.

He was charged with one count of murder on Sunday morning.
