A 49-year-old man was pulled unconscious from the home but could not be revived.

An 18-year-old managed to escape the blaze uninjured.

The fire was immediately deemed suspicious with forensic officers spending most of Saturday scouring the home.

Detectives attended a home in the same street on Saturday afternoon, arresting a 26-year-old man.

He was taken to Nowra Police Station and charged with murder and three counts of destroy or damage property.

Police will allege the man smashed a window before pouring petrol inside the home and setting it alight.

He was refused bail to front Wollongong Local Court via videolink on Sunday.
