Man charged with murder after woman killed in house fire

A MAN has been charged with murder after a woman was found dead inside her burning home in the NSW Hunter region.

Emergency services were called to reports of an explosion at the Rosemount Drive home at Raymond Terrace around 12.30am on Saturday.

Upon arrival, they found the single storey house fully engulfed in flames.

Fire crews managed to extinguish the blaze, however sadly, they located the body of a 76-year-old woman inside the home.

Following investigations, police yesterday charged a 69-year-old man with domestic violence murder and destroying property with intent to endanger life.

He was refused bail to appear at Newcastle Local Court on Thursday 6 September.
