It comes after emergency crews were called to a house at Tarro last month following reports a 20-month-old girl was in cardiac arrest.
The child was rushed to John Hunter Hospital, but sadly, she could not be revived.
A post mortem examination later revealed the girl had suffered numerous serious injuries, including facial, head, and torso bruising, abrasions, and lacerations; broken ribs, a collapsed lung, and internal bleeding.
Police will allege in court that the injuries were occasioned by non-accidental trauma.
Inquiries are continuing.
