It’s alleged the man had absconded from a mental health facility and after being spotted at the railway station allegedly started running down a rail corridor.

Officers gave chase and as they closed in on the man, he allegedly punched a female constable in the face, breaking her nose and injuring her lip.

He was arrested and returned to the mental health facility before subsequently being charged with causing grievous bodily harm to a law enforcement officer, resisting arrest, and going onto/into/remaining on a running line.

He was refused bail and is due to appear before Sutherland Local Court tomorrow.

The female officer has since undergone surgery for her injury.
