Truck driver charged after young woman killed in horror Riverina crash

The driver of a B-Triple truck that smashed into a van, killing a young 18-year-old woman near Hay in the NSW Riverina was unlicensed, police say.

The horrific crash happened at the intersection of the Sturt Highway and Maude Road at Maude at around 9.30am on Tuesday 12 April.

Police were told a B-Triple was travelling westbound on the Sturt Highway when it collided with a van at Maude Road.

The 18-year-old female driver of the van died at the scene.

The 48-year-old male truck driver was also critically injured.

He was treated by paramedics at the scene before being taken to Hay District Hospital.

He has since been released, and on Tuesday 14 June was issued with a Future Court Attendance Notice for dangerous driving occasioning death (drive manner dangerous), negligent driving (occasioning death), unlicensed driver and possess prescribed restricted substance.

He will appear at Hay Local Court on 15 August.
