Man charged after woman held captive in Qld, horrifically tortured for hours

A man has been charged with a number of offences including torture after he allegedly held a woman captive for several hours.

Police allege the 34-year-old man seriously assaulted the woman repeatedly over a number of hours and refused to let her leave following an argument at a home in Manoora, Cairns.

After several hours, the woman aged in her 30s managed to break free and run from the home.


She was taken to hospital suffering multiple injuries including burns and lacerations.

Her attacker has been charged with a total of six offences including one count each of torture, deprivation of liberty, acts attended to maim, common assault and two counts of assault occasioning bodily harm.

He is due to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court on November 16.
