Man critical after almost being strangled to death in alleged domestic attack

A MAN is in a critical condition, fighting to stay alive in hospital after being strangled at a house in NSW.

Police were called to deal with a domestic violence-related incident at the Fairy Avenue home in Fairy Meadow, Wollongong, around 9.30pm last night.

Officers arrived at the address to find a 58-year-old man in a critical condition after allegedly being strangled.

It’s alleged the man had been arguing with a 27-year-old man known to him when the younger man allegedly grabbed him around the throat and began choking him.

The older man was treated by paramedics at the scene before being rushed to Wollongong Hospital where police said he remained in a critical condition on Monday morning.

The 27-year-old man was arrested at the scene and taken to Wollongong Police Station where he was charged with two counts of common assault, and intentionally choke person with recklessness.

He was refused bail to appear at Wollongong Local Court today.

Police said both men are known to each other and the incident was being treated as domestic violence.
