Man critical, another serious after horror Qld croc attack

Two men have been airlifted to hospital after being attacked by a crocodile in far north Queensland.

It happened in the Lockhart River area of Cape York Peninsula just before 5.00pm on Friday.

One man in his 20s is in a critical condition, while a man in his 30s has suffered serious injuries.

The pair have been flown to hospital in Cairns, where they are continuing to receive treatment.

The Department of Environment and Science released a statement overnight confirming they are investigating the suspected crocodile attack.

“A team of DES wildlife officers will travel to Lockhart River which is in a remote part of Far North Queensland to gather further information about the incident and what response is required,” the statement said.

“Due to the remoteness of the area, they aren’t expected to arrive until late Saturday.”

“Our thoughts are with the two men and their families at this time.

“DES is reminding people that Cape York Peninsula is known Croc Country and urge people in the area to be Crocwise.”
