Man critically injured after being hit by car on the Gold Coast was seen abusing and threatening drivers, police say

A MAN is fighting for his life in hospital after being hit by a car after he was reportedly seen abusing and threatening drivers on the Gold Coast last night.

It happened at the intersection of The Boulevard and Grande Avenue in Carrara just after 8pm.

It’s understood emergency services were called to reports of a pedestrian having been hit by a car and arrived at the scene to find a man with what appeared to be minor injuries.

But police said the man’s condition deteriorated overnight and he is now in a critical condition, fighting for his life in the Gold Coast University Hospital.

Detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident, with initial inquiries revealing the man was seen acting erratically and abusing motorists shortly before he was injured.

They are appealing for information from the public to help piece together what happened.

According to witness reports, the man was seen confronting drivers, allegedly threatening one of them with a rock before mounting the second vehicle.

Police are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the altercations, or who may have dashcam footage of the area from around 8.00pm to 8.20pm to come forward.
