Man critically injured in motorbike fall

A MAN has been rushed to hospital with life-threatening head injuries after falling from a motorcycle near Cairns, in Queensland’s Far North.

Police said the 73-year-old man was riding pillion when he fell off the back of the bike on Ray Road at Mareeba shortly before 9pm on Saturday.

The man, from Mount Sheridan, was taken to hospital in a critical condition.


The rider of the motorcycle, a 54-year-old local man was allegedly under the influence of alcohol or drugs at the time.

He was arrested and charged with failing to provide a specimen of breath for analysis and driving under the influence of liquor or a drug.

He’ll appear in Mareeba Magistrates Court next month.

The Forensic Crash Unit is continuing to investigate the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
