Man critically injured in motorway rollover

06:00PM: CHAOS continues for northbound motorists on the M1 between Ormeau and Helensvale.

Motorists are still being advised to avoid the area altogether if possible. Unfortunately it is going to be a long trip home for those heading to Brisbane.

05:30PM: EMERGENCY services are on scene of a second traffic crash involving up to three cars just off the Pacific Motorway at Ormeau.

Multiple emergency crews are on scene and/or responding to the incident in the area of the Old Pacific Highway and Mirambeena Drive, off Exit 45 of the Pacific Motorway.

Four people have been injured and are being attended to by three ambulance crews.

This is adding to the already heavy congestion being experienced in the area as a result of an earlier single vehicle rollover.

05:00PM: Northbound traffic is still at a standstill on the M1 between Ormeau and Helensvale following an earlier serious traffic crash at Pimpama.

Southbound traffic is also slow running between Yatala and Pimpama.

Motorists are being warned to avoid the area altogether and seek an alternate route if possible with just one northbound lane open at the scene.

Service roads are also heavily congested as drivers desperately try to exit the motorway.

“I was stuck for two hours,” one reader said. Another reader has described the delays as a “carpark” onwards from Movie World.

The Forensic Crash Unit is still on scene investigating.

2:30PM: A MAN has been rushed to hospital with a critical head injury following a serious traffic crash on the Pacific Motorway at Pimpama.

Police say initial information indicated a utility was travelling northbound before it lost control and rolled approximately 500m north of Exit 45 shortly before 2pm.

The sole occupant of the vehicle, a man believed to be in his 50s, has been transported to the Gold Coast University Hospital with serious head injuries.

Two of the northbound lanes have been closed which has had a profound impact on traffic, with heavy delays being experienced.

Motorists are being urged to delay travel if possible or seek an alternate route.

The Forensic Crash Unit is on scene investigating.
