A MAN is dead and another is in a serious condition following a two-car crash north-west of Newcastle.
Police say a Hyundai iload travelling north collided with a southbound Ford Ranger on the New England Highway at Whittingham, near Singleton, around 2.20pm on Thursday.
The force of the impact caused the Ford Ranger to flip onto its side.

The 26-year-old Victorian man who was driving the iload had to be cut out of the wreckage. Sadly, he succombed to his injuries and died while being airlifted to John Hunter Hospital.
A 23-year-old female passenger was transported to John Hunter Hospital for treatment to tissue damage and bruising.
The 22-year-old male driver of the Ford Ranger suffered serious internal abdominal injuries and was taken to John Hunter Hospital where he is undergoing surgery.
Police say he remains in a serious but stable condition.
The Newcastle Crash Investigation Unit are investigating the circumstances surrounding the collision.
