Man dies after being punched to the ground in Coffs Harbour

A man has died after being assaulted in Coffs Harbour at the weekend.

About 10.15pm on Saturday 3 October 2015, a 27-year-old man left a licensed premise and walked west along West High Street, Coffs Harbour.

When at the intersection of Lyster Street and West High Street, the man became involved in an altercation with an unidentified person.

During the altercation, the 27-year-old was punched, and fell onto the roadway and hit his head.

He was taken to Coffs Harbour Hospital, then flown to John Hunter Hospital with critical head injuries.

About midday yesterday (Tuesday 6 October 2015), the man’s life support was turned off and he passed away.

Detectives from Coffs/Clarence Local Area Command have formed Strike Force Gerda to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death.

They are appealing for anyone who may have information to come forward
