Man dies after being sucked into concrete pipe in floodwaters

A Queensland man has died after driving into floodwaters in the New South Wales outback overnight.

It’s understood the 56-year-old was trying to help a friend when he drove into the fast-flowing waters in Broken Hill around 10.30pm.

“Police have been told the man then exited his Toyota Landcruiser utility, before being sucked into a concrete pipe and became stuck due to the force of the floodwater,” NSW police said


Sadly, the man’s body was discovered by SES crews and officers a short time later.

Despite their desperate attempts, he could not be revived.

A crime scene has been established with invesitgations into the circumstances surrounding the incident now underway.

A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.
