Man dies after drowning in front of shocked beachgoers

A MAN has tragically died after drowning in front of shocked onlookers at a beach in Sydney.

The man was pulled from the water at South Steyne Beach in Manly around 2.30pm on Easter Saturday.

Witnesses tried desperately to revive the man, but there was nothing they could do to save him.


The 61-year-old was rushed by ambulance to Manly Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

Police are investigating the incident and will prepare a report for the information of the Coroner.

A post mortem examination will be carried out to determine the man’s exact cause of death.
