Man dies at police station after being arrested for alleged domestic violence offences

A MAN has died at a police station shortly after being arrested for alleged domestic violence offences in Sydney’s west.

The 29-year-old was arrested at a house in Rooty Hill just before 11.45pm last night.

Police said officers had been called to reports of a domestic violence-related incident at the home.

The man was taken to Mt Druitt Police Station where he was found unconscious an hour later.

“About 12.45pm, the man was found unconscious in the charge area,” police said in a statement.

“Police rendered first aid until paramedics arrived; however, he died a short time later,” the statement said.

A critical incident investigation team from North Shore Police Area Command has been tasked to investigate the circumstances surrounding the man’s death.

The investigation will be subject to an independent review and will be overseen by the Law Enforcement Conduct Commission.

“All information will be provided to the Coroner who will determine the cause of death and make any findings about the events leading up to the man’s death,” the police statement said.

No further details have been released.
