Man dies after escaping south coast house fire

A MAN has collapsed and died after fleeing from a burning building the far south coast of NSW.

Emergency services were called to a unit ablaze on Lamont Street at Bermagui around 9.40pm last night.

Multiple fire crews raced to the scene and worked quickly to extinguish the flames.


A 54-year-old man was treated at the scene by paramedics but sadly, he could not be saved. He was pronounced dead before he could be transported to hospital.

Police said two other residents escaped the building uninjured.

The site was declared a crime scene which was examined by forensic officers overnight.

Investigators said the fire was not being treated as suspicious.
