Man dies after being hit by car while changing tyre

A man has died after being hit by a car while changing a tyre on a road near Coolah yesterday afternoon.

Police say that at about 5.40pm, emergency services were called to Blackbutts Way, 85km south of Coonabarabran, following reports of a crash.

Initial investigations suggest a 52-year-old man was attempting to change the tyre of his red Holden station wagon when he was allegedly struck by a maroon Ford Falcon sedan.

He later died at hospital.

The driver of the Ford, a 51-year-old man, allegedly failed to stop after the crash and drove to a home before contacting police.

He has since been arrested and has been taken to Coolah Hospital for mandatory blood and urine analysis.

The fatal incident comes just hours after a 23-year-old man was hit while changing a tyre on Waterworth Drive in Narellan yesterday.

He is in a stable condition.
