Man dies in hospital after freak accident in Sydney car park

A man has died in hospital after being hit by a car in a freak accident on Sydney’s Upper North Shore yesterday.

The 88-year-old man was struck at a service station on the Pacific Highway at Hornsby just before 12.30pm.

Police said the man had returned to his parked vehicle which, as it was preparing to move off, lurched forward and hit a brick wall.

“The driver, an 88-year-old man, believed the car had a mechanical problem and requested help from a 25-year-old man,” police said in a statement.

“The 88-year-old was then hit by the vehicle.”

The man was rushed to hospital where, sadly, he was pronounced dead yesterday afternoon.

A report is being prepared for the Coroner.
