Man dies in hospital after truck towing excavator crashes on Gold Coast

UPDATE @ 10 May, 12.00pm: A 25-year-old man who was critically injured in a horror crash involving a truck and two cars in the Gold Coast hinterland last week has died in hospital.

The accident happened about 5.30pm on Thursday May 3, on Tambourine-Oxenford Road.

Initial investigations suggest the truck was travelling along the popular road when it collided with two passing vehicles, pushing one of them off the road

The truck, which was towing an excavator, then flipped onto its roof.

The driver, a 25-year-old man from Fortitude Valley, was treated at the scene for head, neck and leg injuries before being rushed to Gold Coast University Hospital in a critical condition.

Sadly, police confirmed in a statement a short time ago that he passed away yesterday.

The occupants of the two other vehicles were not seriously injured.

The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating and calling for any witnesses, or anyone who may have dashcam footage of a truck towing an excavator along Tamborine-Oxenford Road just prior to 5.30pm, to come forward.

EARLIER @ 4 May, 12.00pm: A MAN is in a critical condition after a horror crash involving a truck and two cars in the Gold Coast hinterland.

The accident happened about 5.30pm Thursday, on Tambourine-Oxenford Road.

Police allege the truck was travelling along the popular road when it collided with two passing vehicles, pushing one of them off the road.

The truck, which was towing an excavator, then flipped onto its roof.

The driver, a man aged in his 20s, was treated at the scene for head, neck and leg injuries before being rushed to Gold Coast University Hospital in a stable condition.

The three occupants of the other two vehicles suffered minor injuries and were also taken to Gold Coast University Hospital.

Police are now appealing for anyone who may have dash cam vision of a white Isuzu truck with an excavator on a trailer travelling along Tambourine-Oxenford Road prior to the incident to come forward.

The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating.
