Man dies in Tweed truck crash after suffering suspected medical episode
A MAN has died following a truck crash that shut down the Tugun Tunnel on Thursday.
The accident happened southbound on the Pacific Motorway at Tweed Heads, approaching the Tugun Tunnel, around 10.30am.
It’s understood a 47-year-old man was driving a heavy vehicle, when he suffered a suspected medical episode behind the wheel.
Police say the vehicle veered to the left and hit a guard rail for a distance of about 100m before coming to a stop.
Emergency crews rushed to the scene, and the man was taken to Tweed Heads Hospital, however sadly was pronounced deceased.
Officers from Tweed/Byron Police District will prepare a report for the Coroner.
