Man ‘doused in petrol and set alight’ in horror attack

A MAN is fighting for life in hospital after allegedly being doused in petrol and set alight at a home in country NSW.

Emergency services were called to a house fire on Glasson Street at Wellington, near Dubbo, shortly after 5 pm on Thursday.

They arrived to find the house well alight and a 52-year-old man suffering life-threatening burns.

In a statement, police said the man suffered extensive burns to over 60 percent of his body.

He was treated by paramedics before being rushed by ambulance to Wellington District Hospital.

The man has since been airlifted to Sydney’s Concord Hospital where he remains in a critical condition.

A crime scene was established at the Glasson St home after it was determined the fire was deliberately lit.

Police will allege the victim was doused in petrol and set alight before the flames spread through the home.

A 46-year-old man was arrested at a home nearby and taken to Dubbo Base Hospital under police guard for treatment to burns he allegedly sustained during the attack.

He has since been released from hospital and charged with grievous bodily harm with intent to murder (DV).

The man was remanded in custody and due to appear before Dubbo Local Court later today.
