A MAN has tragically drowned while celebrating Australia Day on a river on the New South Wales-Victoria border.
The 37-year-old got into trouble and struggled to stay afloat after entering the Murray River at Yarrawonga in Victoria about 12.30pm.
Police said members of the public called Triple Zero and tried to assist the man, but he disappeared under the water.

Officers from both sides of the border attended the scene 95km west of Albury, but sadly there was nothing they could do.
Police confirmed he man’s body was retrieved from the water about 1.10pm.
NSW Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident and will prepare a report for the information of the Coroner.
