Man to face court after sparking Amber Alert on Gold Coast

A MAN is due to face Southport Court today after sparking an Amber Alert on the Gold Coast.

Around 10.30am on Thursday, a man entered a Frank Street service station in Labrador and claimed he had a child in a black bag he was carrying.

The man then allegedly made threats towards the ‘child’ in the bag before leaving the store.

Police issued an Amber Alert around 12.00pm, with fears the child may be at risk, however the man was located in Southport around 1.40pm.

Investigations by detectives from the Gold Coast Child Protection and Investigation Unit revealed that there had never been a child in the bag or at risk from the man.

The 44-year-old was issued with a notice to appear for public nuisance and will appear in the Southport Magistrates Court today.
