A man has been airlifted to the Gold Coast University Hospital following a horror head-on crash with a truck in northern NSW.
The man was allegedly trying to evade police when his car collided with the heavy vehicle on the Pacific Highway at Ballina around 7.30pm last night.
According to NSW police, officers attempted to pull over the car a short time earlier but it failed to stop and a “low-speed pursuit was initiated”.

The man behind the wheel was treated at the scene by paramedics following the crash, before being flown to Gold Coast University Hospital, where he remains in a critical condtion.
The driver of the truck is believed to have escaped uninjured.
Police have confirmed a critical incident investigation into the pursuit has been declared.
