Man fighting to stay alive after being bashed unconscious on Sydney street

A 55-year-old man has suffered horrific head injuries after being bashed unconscious in the heart of Sydney.

Police say the victim was standing on Crown Street near Kells Lane in Darlinghurst when he was attacked around 10.15am on Thursday.

It’s alleged a man walked up to the victim and repeatedly punched and kicked him to the point where he lost consciousness and collapsed to the pavement.

The 55-year-old man was rushed to St Vincent’s Hospital in a critical condition. Police said the man’s skull was fractured “multiple times”.

A 34-year-old man was arrested a few hours later. He was detained by police on Nickson Street in Darlinghurst around 2.30pm.

He was last night assisting police with their inquiries at Kings Cross Police Station.
