Man fighting to stay alive after single-vehicle crash near Yass

A MAN remains in a critical condition in hospital following a single-vehicle crash in the NSW Southern Tablelands on Saturday morning.

The 40-year-old man was driving a white Mitsubishi Lancer along the Hume Highway at Bowning, around 15km north-west of Yass, when it left the road and slammed into a tree around 7.30am.

Passing motorists rendered first aid to the driver before paramedics arrived. Ambulance officers stabilised the man at the scene before transporting him to Canberra Hospital where he remains today in a critical condition.

Police said the man was the sole occupant of the vehicle.

Officers from The Hume Local Area Command are investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash and are urging anyone with information to come forward and contact Crime Stoppers.
