Man fights for life after brutal shopping centre attack

A MAN is in a critical condition hospital after being bashed unconscious in a brutal attack outside a shopping centre on the NSW Central Coast.

It’s alleged the 57-year-old victim became involved in an argument with a 20-year-old man inside a shopping centre on Erina Street in Gosford about 8pm last night.

Police said the younger man left the store and waited outside for the older man to leave.

It’s alleged the 20-year-old accosted the 57-year-old outside the store before physically beating him, causing him to collapse and smash his head on the footpath.

Police said the older man was rendered unconscious in the brutal attack.

He was treated by paramedics at the scene before being taken to Gosofrd Hospital. The man has since been transferred to Sydney’s Royal North Shore Hospital in a critical condition.

Witnesses detained the younger man at the scene until police arrived.

The 20-year-old was arrested and has since been charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm and recklessly cause grievous bodily harm.

He was refused bail and to appear at Gosford Local Court today.
