Man fights for life after savage assault

A MAN is fighting for life in hospital following a savage assault at Tweed Heads.

The man, 54, was allegedly bashed by a 47-year-old man at a property on Kennedy Drive about 6pm on Wednesday.

Police said the younger man allegedly assaulted the older man “several times”.


Emergency services were called to the scene a short time later and found the older man in a critical condition.

He was rushed to the Gold Coast University Hospital where he remains in a critical but stable condition.

The younger man was taken to Tweed Heads Police Station before he was transferred to Tweed Heads Hospital where he was treated for injuries he sustained during the altercation.

He has since been charged with recklessly causing grievous bodily harm and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

A court date is yet to be determined.

Police have established Strike Force Ypres to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
