Man fights for life in hospital following brutal fight

A MAN has been charged over a fight in Newcastle which left another man in hospital with life-threatening head injuries.

Police said the 59-year-old victim was found seriously injured inside a unit at Hamilton South around 9.30am on Tuesday.

He was treated by paramedics at the scene before being taken to John Hunter Hospital where he remains in a critical condition.


A 36-year-old man was arrested at the Fowler Street unit and taken to Newcastle Police Station for questioning.

Police said initial investigations suggested the two men are known to each other.

The 36-year-old has since been charged with causing grievous bodily harm to a person with intent, and destroy or damage property.

He was remanded in custody and due to front Newcastle Local Court yesterday.
