Man filmed kicking dog in viral video pleads guilty to animal cruelty

A MAN who was caught on camera kicking his dog at a beach on the Gold Coast has pleaded guilty to animal cruelty.

The RSPCA seized ‘Rocky’ the blue staffy in early January after shocking footage of the incident, which occurred at Palm Beach Parklands, went viral on social media.

Following investigations, Reedy Creek man Brett Simpson was charged with one count of animal cruelty.

Simpson appeared in Southport Court today, where he formally pleaded guilty to the charge.

He was fined $1000 and banned from owning a pet for the next three years.

When sentencing the 33-year-old, the judge said she took into consideration the fact that Simpson had donated $500 to the RSPCA, had undergone anger management classes and suffered “abhorrent” abuse online.

There were also considerations made because Mr Simpson handed himself into the RSPCA.
