Man flown to hospital after Sydney balcony fall

A MAN has been airlifted to hospital in a serious but stable condition after plunging several storeys from an apartment building on Sydney’s Northern Beaches.

The 42-year-old is lucky to be alive after he fell five metres from a balcony in Palm Beach at around 10.30am on Sunday.

A Careflight spokesperson said the man narrowly missed landing directly on rocks and a retaining wall. He sustained severe head injuries and was rendered unconscious.

CareFlight’s rapid response rescue helicopter was tasked to airlift the man to hospital. On board was Careflight’s specialist doctor and intensive care paramedic.

They worked together with emergency services at the scene to stabilise the man and retrieve him from “steep and difficult-to-access terrain” before flying him to Royal North Shore Hospital.

It’s understood he was transported semi-conscious in a serious but stable condition.
