Man found asleep at bus stop brutally beaten by stranger in NSW

A 51-year-old man has been savagely attacked after being found lying on the ground at a bus stop in Sydney’s greater west.

Police said a man and woman found the man on Northumberland Street in Liverpool just after 2pm on Friday.

Concerned for his welfare, the couple tried waking the man who police allege then turned aggressive towards the pair.

An argument broke out between the trio, at which point it’s alleged an unknown man became involved and suddenly punched the 51-year-old in the head, causing him to fall to the ground.

Police said the unknown man continued to allegedly punch and kick the 51-year-old man as he lay injured before fleeing the scene.

Paramedics were called and treated the injured man at the scene before conveying him to Liverpool Hospital.

Police said the extent of his injuries were not immediately clear.

As investigations into the assault continue, police are appealing for anyone with information to contact Liverpool Police Station on 02 9821 8444.
