Man charged over alleged one punch attack in Surfers

UPDATE | A man has been charged over an alleged one-punch attack in Surfers Paradise that left a man critically injured.

Police allege a 26-year-old man punched a 39-year-old New South Wales man as the pair were walking along Surfers Paradise Boulevard just before 4am on Sunday.

The older man fell to the ground and hit his on the concrete pavement.

The man was given first aid by Police before the man was taken to hospital where he remains in a serious but stable condition.

The 26-year-old man, who is known to the alleged victim, was arrested at the scene.

He’s since been charged with one count each of grievous bodily harm and possessing dangerous drugs.

He was refused bail to front Southport Magistrates Court on Monday.

EARLIER by Shanee Dobeson | A man is fighting for his life after an alleged assault in Surfers Paradise in the early hours of this morning.

Police found the injured man, whose age is not known, on Surfers Paradise Boulevard just after 4.00am on Sunday.

Paramedics rushed to the scene and treated the man for a serious head injury.

He has since been taken to the Gold Coast University Hospital in a critical condition.

A Queensland Police spokesperson told myGC another man is currently assisting with inquiries.

Investigations are ongoing.
