Man found dead in car wrapped around tree

ONE man has died and another has been airlifted to hospital after the car they were in left the road and smashed into a tree in northern New South Wales.

Emergency services were called to the scene of the horrific crash on the New England Highway at Glencoe, 22km from Glen Innes, shortly before 5am.

They arrived to find two males trapped inside a hatchback, wrapped around a tree on the side of the road.

Sadly, there was nothing emergency services could do to save one of the males, who was already deceased when they arrived.

The second man was treated at the scene for multiple serious injuries before being flown to Tamworth Hospital.

He remains there this morning, in a stable condition.

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash and are urging anyone with information to come forward.
