Man found unconscious after brutal assault

A MAN has been airlifted to hospital with extensive head injuries after being brutally bashed in outback Queensland.

The 34-year-old was found unconscious at a house on Joyce Street in the Mount Isa suburb of Pioneer early on Saturday morning.

Police said officers found the man after being called to reports of an assault at the address around 1.30am.

The victim was treated by paramedics at the scene and was expected to be flown to Townsville treatment.

Police said the 34-year-old sustained severe head injuries in the attack.

Two men were in police custody this morning, assisting detectives with their investigation.
