Gold Coast High Acuity Response Unit Critical Care paramedic Michael Kerr said emergency crews had to complete a “long and detailed extraction” to free the man, which included bringing in heavy lifting equipment.
After being freed and stabalised at the scene, the man was taken to Gold Coast University Hospital in a serious but stable condition with lower leg and pelvic injuries.
Trams were suspended in both directions between Southport and Broadbeach South stations, however have since resumed between Southport and Surfers Paradise North.
Police investigations are continuing.
