Man hospitalised as police investigate suspicious fire at Southport

A man in his 50s was taken to Gold Coast University Hospital suffering smoke inhalation, after a fire in Southport spread to a shed on Little Norman Street just before midnight.

Police are looking into the cause of a suspicious fire at Southport overnight.

Just after midnight police patrolling High Street observed a fire in a carport.

The fire was extinguished soon after, and four vehicles parked in the carport were destroyed as well as minor damage to the adjoining buildings.

A crime scene has been declared with investigations expected to continue at the site today.
