Man stabbed in the back with gardening shears in late night street scuffle

UPDATE @ 9.00 AM | A man’s been arrested after allegedly stabbing another man in the back with a gardening implement last night.

A 53-year-old man was walking along Lord Street, Coolangatta, just after 10.00 pm, when a 47-year-old man known to him approached from a nearby residence.

A scuffle broke out before the 53-year-old was stabbed in the back by secateurs, suffering a serious wound.


He was rushed to hospital in a serious but stable condition, according to paramedics.

Police have since arrested the 49-year-old man and charged him with one count of wounding as well as drug-related offences.

He’s already been granted bail and will return to Coolangatta court in March.

EARLIER @ 7.15 AM | A man’s in a serious condition in hospital with a wound to his back, after an incident in Coolangatta overnight.

Paramedics were called to a private address around 10.20 pm following reports of the injury.

On arrival, a man was briefly assessed for a back wound before being rushed to the hospital for further treatment.

Critical care paramedics were on board for transport.

He’s understood to be in the Gold Coast University Hospital in a serious but stable condition.

Queensland Police are yet to confirm whether or not they’re investigating.
